Idyllic renaissance
retreat

A tranquil and prestigious retreat – this is how the Secret Garden luxury residences present themselves. Tucked away in a courtyard off Prinz-Eugen-Strasse in Wieden, Vienna’s 4th District, the historical palace appears intimate and generous at the same time. With the enchanted garden around it, the building emanates an impressive atmosphere.

The windows of the bel étage with their generous triangular ornaments date back to the year 1880 and perfectly match other carefully renovated details.

  • a centrally located hideaway in a quiet garden

History

a truly
aristocratic past

Shielded from the street by other buildings, the stately residence is considered a ‘hidden’ cultural heritage in Vienna. Just across the street from the park of Belvedere Palace, the property bears testimony to an eventful history and Vienna’s glorious past. Originally erected in Historicism style in 1880, the building was owned by the aristocratic Hungarian family of Johann Count Pállfy of Erdöd, Imperial Field Marshal and Palatine of the Kingdom of Hungary. Many members of this famous family were high-ranking officers serving the Habsburg monarchy.

In 1902, the palace of the Imperial Count Pállfy was converted to northern Renaissance style; 70 years later the façade was simplified, its interior redesigned. However, the shapes of its Renaissance ornaments remained in place.

Vienna city palaces used to be the residences of aristocratic families and the monarchy’s affluent bourgeoisie who wanted to create historical monuments to their families. This part of Vienna was also the most exclusive area during the Grunderzeit period and much sought after by Europe’s high society.
